Does an old website hurt SEO?

In short, the answer is usually ‘yes.’  Old websites may not compete as effectively as newer ones.  A good rule of thumb is that if your site has an extension to the URL such as .html or .asp, the site could stand an upgrade. Old websites are typically hosted on older content management systems that do not allow for good SEO processes. The search engines know which sites are older and may not treat them as favorably on their search results.

How important are Keywords to SEO?

Keywords help the search engines understand the content of each page. Keywords should be carefully researched prior to doing any composition – either of the text or of the page itself.  Keyword research is an extremely important piece of the SEO strategy.

Do I need a secure website?

The answer here is a simple ‘yes.’  Google in particular has stated that it will favor website that operate in a secure or “https” environment.  If you need help setting up a secure site or environment, contact us today.

Does a decline traffic indicate a problem with my SEO?

The answer may be ‘yes’ here, as well.  Competitors may have entered your market or local area and are now receiving the lion’s share of search traffic. A careful analysis of past trends is important to understand what has happened before constructing a strategy to recovery.

What will getting to the top page of the SERPS do for my business?

Search engines provide a great deal of exposure for your business provided you can compete effectively for good placement. Search engines are used by consumers nearly 80% of the time for pre-purchase research. Especially for those potential customers considering a major purchase, placement on the search engines allows your organization to present its information exactly at the point in the buying process where consumers are comparing one solution to another. Without making the company visible on the search engines, the company has no chance of making a new sale.

Will getting a top search result placement generate traffic?

Yes… provided users actually use the search term you’ve focused on. Pre-SEO planning is hugely important to avoid placing effort on achieving the #1 spot for a search term used by few internet users or are used by searches looking for information other than what your company provides. Your consultant can help identify useful search terms that have substantial volumes of search traffic.

How do 'Keywords' work?

Keywords serve a couple of functions but their main purpose is to describe the content of the page. Selecting these keywords are part of the pre-SEO planning process that identifies search terms and words that those searching on the internet frequently use is the key to capturing traffic. However, there are as many keyword strategies as there are companies, so it is important to build a niche-strategy that focuses on keywords with good traffic but relatively low competition. Once the page builds strength and readership, additional strategies can be developed to focus on more competitive terms.

How long does it take to get onto the top page using SEO?

The answer depends upon the competitive nature of the keywords and terms selected during pre-SEO planning. Of course competing for placement using terms like “Banks in Los Angeles” will take quite a bit longer than looking for a less competitive niche or someting like “New Business Loans Los Angles.” In the end though, it is possible to get to the top page of Google in 90 days for a well-selected set of keyword terms with a solid link building effort. Getting to #1 of course takes longer, but again depending on the competitive term used, achieving top placement can be done in 90 to 120 days given the proper

Is SEO useful for attracting local business?

A common misconception is the belief that larger organizations with the ability to sell products and services nationally are the ones that can use SEO. The fact is that most consumers are now using a local geographic term or ‘parameter’ within their search request to find local providers of the products and services they need. This, coupled with the fact that most national companies don’t compete well on a local level using the internet could provide a real opportunity to smaller businesses. Local SEO is a tremendous opportunity to attract new business for small and mid sized companies.

Does having a blog improve my overall ability to attract traffic?

Blogs typically allow users to find your page based on the content of your postings. If you can maintain a blog by posting new content each day about your industry or about interesting subjects related to your industry, this will improve traffic to the website over time. Blogs also offer the opportunity to interact with prospective customers as well as to collect feedback from existing clients. So the short answer here is ‘yes.’ A blog will attract more traffic provided you take the time to maintain it and update it frequently.

Can I get good placement on the search engine results without a consultant?

Sure… but it takes a while. Consultants can quickly identify useful keyword strategies and kick off the link-building processes necessary for success much sooner than an inexperienced manager could. Consultants also bring the benefit of past years of experience. Doing it internally means that you are investing time and money in a complex process in which the manager has little experience. This greatly increases the chances of making time-wasting and costly mistakes such as pursuing inappropriate keyword strategies for your organizational niche.

Are there good tools available for free to learn SEO?

Yes.. but again, the user has to take the time to understand what the systems are providing. A good SEO consultant that has worked in the industry for several years can make the benefits of this experience available to his/her clients much more quickly. Many of these tools are useful in learning the business. If the company has the time to invest in a long learning-curve and in someone that may take the skill-set with him when he moves on to another job, it is certainly possible to self-educate on Search Engine Optimization tactics and processes.
